How did you meet?

We first met each other at Homecoming as friends and as the year went on we kept going with each other to every school dance. We really got to know each other when Cecilia was injured and I (Steve) helped her with anything she needed. I would carry her bag for her, open doors for her, give her rides to her house, listen to her, and help any way I can to make her life easier. Then one day on the night of awards night, I asked her for a chance to be with her and she said yes. From that moment on I asked her out for Prom and our Journey took off :)

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Trust is a must and communication is important. As long as you trust your loved one and communicate with each other every day then all should be fine. Don’t hesitate to tell each other anything on your mind or hide it from them. They are there for a reason and that’s because they really care about you and want to be there for you. Not only are they your loved ones, but also your best friend.

If there is ever a moment where a couple is on the verge of giving up on each other, remind yourselves why you fell in love with the person and what you’re holding on to. The final advice would be that whenever there is a an argument or fight between a couple, work it out when both of you have calmed down instead of going at it while mad because then nothing will ever be solved.

image

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

When we are both in school, we video call each other to catch up and at times stay up late to where we both fall asleep while on video. When out of school and back at home, we would go to each other’s family parties.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"Chin up mi amor (my love)" or "As Long as There’s Progress"

image

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

Steve: My favorite thing about Cecilia is her endless support of me :) she understands me and never gives up on me achieving my goals. Every time I see her lovely eyes and smile, I tell myself it’s all worth it. She is my motivation and keeps me going in life.

Cecilia: My favorite thing about Steve is his never ending patience and how he will always wait for my mood to cool down before making me laugh again.

Happy iPad Avocado’ing!

Brent and Brooklyn’s international love stretches all the way from Ireland to Ohio! They may be thousands of miles apart, but they keep their love alive by gaming, Skyping, Avocado’ing, and of course visiting each other at every opportunity. Read about how these two bridge the distance and maintain a fun and romantic long distance relationship.

How did you meet?

I (Brent) added Brooklyn on Facebook and after a bit of talking I asked her to come on Skype cause it’s easier to talk and get to know each other quicker. She was unsure cause we didn’t know each other really. And we talked and acted silly, and got to know each other really quickly. After talking for two weeks we were in love.

I know it sounds geeky and stuff but we’re both big gamers and a lot of waiting and time had passed and I was just having so much fun and it just suddenly clicked after we played together in this game for so long. I just didn’t want her to get away.

To this day we are still together happy as ever. I went over to visit her last summer for a month and she’s coming over this summer for around the same time.

image

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Never give up on the one you love, through thick or thin always fight for each other and have each other’s back. Don’t lie or hide things from each other, because a relationship is trust and loyalty, and how can you be trusted if you lie? Even if it’s something you feel terrible about, they deserve to know what you did. Like if you broke their favorite Ming dynasty vase that they got on their antique trip to Asia when they where 10 years old with their antique-loving parents or if you put sugar in their tea and they don’t like sugar but your hoping they don’t notice cause you messed up.

But most importantly, stay happy and make each other happy. There is nothing better than the one you love making you smile and laugh.

image

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

Watching movies, singing to each other, playing games together and talking all night.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"The Journey of Player 1 and Player 2"

image

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

Brent: Her childishness, it always makes me smile and makes me happy.

Brooklyn: He is always there for me with a smile when i’m sad. He is the first person I’ve ever loved/been in a long term relationship with. I really love that he always strives to be a better person and in return it’s made me into a better person as well. In short, he’s the one person I can count on and I hope to keep him FOR ALL ETERNITY (if he’ll let me that is).

Unlimited Lists! ENDLESS UNLIMITED LISTS!

Today we’re announcing a new lower price for Avocado Unlimited, as well as two different subscription plans for you and your favorite person. For over a year, we’ve offered two options for Avocado users: a free version and an Unlimited version for $19.99 per year.

What we’ve found over time is that Avocado users want more flexibility with payment options. Some couples want to try Avocado out first before purchasing a full year of Unlimited, while others want a better way to renew their subscriptions on a monthly or quarterly basis. Our new payment options give you a chance to use Unlimited for three months, or (if you’re really awesome) a full year:

image

As a startup, we’re always exploring business models that are mutually beneficial to both our users and the company. Though we have many options, one thing we feel strongly about is not hosting 3rd party ads in Avocado. Keeping your private space in Avocado free from outside distractions is extremely important to us.

That’s why, with our latest update, we’ve decided to only add an in-app upgrade banner for Avocado Unlimited. If you are using Avocado’s free version, you will see the upgrade banner appear in the messages tab when you log in. You’ll be able to dismiss the banner once per day. If you are an avid user of Avocado and love our product, we hope you’ll consider supporting our team by upgrading to one of our paid plans so we can continue providing a great experience for couples everywhere.

Our goal has always been to create products that bring you closer to your favorite person. We hope this latest update will make it easier for you to create memories and stay in touch with your special someone, through Avocado and beyond.

We deeply appreciate you supporting the time, energy, and love we’ve put into Avocado.

Thank you!

P.S. You’ll notice the new subscription options on the latest version of Avocado for Android, and we’ll be rolling out the changes for iOS in the next release. Stay tuned!

FAQs

What if I already have an Unlimited subscription?

You will maintain your current expiration date for Unlimited. When your subscription runs out, you will have the chance to renew via one of the two pricing options available on your platform.

Do we both need to purchase the subscription?

No, only one of you needs to purchase the subscription. Once one of you upgrades to Unlimited, you will both have Unlimited accounts.

What happens if I leave my couple? Do I keep my Unlimited subscription?

Subscriptions are per couple, so if you leave the current couple you will lose any Unlimited subscription tied to it.

Just as Becky was ready to abandon online dating, Rigo came along and changed everything. These two adventurers love to experience new things and chase down the best cuisine wherever their adventures take them. Read on to hear how these two fell head over heels, silliness and all…

How did you meet?

We met on OkCupid. I (Becky) was logging on to delete my account when I got this long, very personal and interesting message and thought there was no harm in just talking to this guy. We have been talking to each other non-stop ever since.

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Be patient and seek to understand one another. always share everything and discuss every topic even if it’s embarrassing or difficult to say because that will just make you grow closer.

image

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

Rigo works on Saturdays, but on days off we are usually out on an adventure. We are both huge fans of delicious food and like to discover new types of cuisine or just really great food. if we aren’t out, we are probably snuggled inside with a cup of tea and watching commercials since we both love marketing.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"Unexpected Joy"

What is your favorite feature in Avocado?

Media sharing. We both like to share pictures of things we see while we aren’t together, or photos that come out really well of things we see while on adventures.

image

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

I love so many things about Rigo, his angelic voice, amazing cooking skills, when he is silly and makes me laugh, but most of all I love his compassionate spirit and endless patience. His favorite things about me are my passion and openness. Rigo is the first date I’ve had where I felt comfortable enough to just be myself, goofiness and all, so we both bounce off that positive energy.

image

What is your favorite guacamole recipe?

Classic mashed avocado with a generous squeeze of lemon juice, and maybe some chopped up onion, tomato, and cilantro. If I’m feeling lazy, I just throw in some pre-made salsa with the avocado instead.

Quietly, without any fuss, the world’s couples are finding a home.

About a month ago, we launched pears.io, the first social platform with shared profiles built just for couples. Pears is a place for couples to collect and share their best moments, creating a digital scrapbook of memories that is sharable and interactive.

Like most startups before launching a product, we had a lot of questions (and concerns) leading up to the big day: Will people “get” it? Will people use it? Was is it worth all the long hours and forgone development of other products? In short: did we make the right decisions?

Well…

We are host to a worldwide demand for couples profiles, currently spanning one third of the globe and the entire United States. In fact, within only 14 days of our launch, we already had profiles from 46 countries.

(As of today, that has grown to 58 countries.)                             Conclusion: Love is everywhere.

What we’ve seen in the month since our launch has been unexpected and, frankly, awesome. Couples around the world have shared love stories, laughter and a lots of favorite moments.

We built Pears for a lot of reasons, but there are a few specific factors that we believe helped Pears become global in such a short timeframe:

Couples are sharing much more than a home, dessert after dinner, or inside jokes

  • According to the Pew Research Center, 11% of all couples worldwide who use social networking sites also share profiles, and two-thirds of couples polled share passwords. Couples are sharing their digital lives, and Pears is possibly the first social networking space to allow couples to do so in a meaningful and purposeful way.

Digital PDA in the wrong place creates problems

  • Relationship content on social media is getting a bad reputation because it’s in the wrong place (see exhibits A, B and C). Pears, however, is created specifically for couples to share their best moments, sweet nothings, schmoop, and general happiness. It also hosts a community that’s into shouting love from the rooftops, so it’s a safe space for couples’ content everywhere.

It hurts to lose digital memories

  • It may be easier to document your life and relationships across apps, devices, and services, but it’s only gotten harder to organize, revisit, and enjoy those memories. Pears is created to be a (shareable) digital scrapbook of your relationship, bringing together dates, photos, conversations and anything else you don’t want to forget in one place.

At our core, our mission is to create better (and more beautiful) ways for couples to communicate and share their lives together. We think Pears and Avocado are important progressions to the status quo of how couples relate to each other and the world in their digital and non-digital lives.

On Pears, couples share funny, adorable, witty and heartfelt sentiments. Each profile is a unique story shaped by the couples who create it and their varying locales.

So what does love look like around the world?

See for yourself.

If you haven’t created a Pears account yet, we hope you’ll give it a try and let us know how we can improve the experience further.

We have much more to announce soon. For now, we continue to look forward to sharing the world’s love stories, one pair at a time.

Do you believe in love at first tweet? You might want to read Ryan and Samantha’s story before you write it off. These two started their relationship online but continued it side by side in North Carolina and just recently got engaged!

How did you meet?

We both seem to glance at each other a little hesitantly when asked this question. While neither one of us were actively seeking to get into a relationship at the time, what started as a playful follow on twitter would eventually graduate to instagram, to skype, to me driving 10 hours on a whim from a small town in Connecticut to a smaller town in North Carolina. Fingers crossed that my car didn’t break down somewhere in Delaware, I set off on the biggest trip of my life.

Despite the obvious “catfish” syndrome perplexing our family and friends, and after safely meeting everyone in each other’s family, we could not believe that we were aligned in such an unexpected way. I have since traded in my apple cider for sweet tea and moved to North Carolina, but during the first 6 months of our relationship we were an arduous 550 miles apart. I was finishing my bachelor’s and Samantha had just started a great job at a local hospital, so one weekend every few months was the extent of our physical relationship. Luckily, we had some Avocado to fill in the gaps!

image

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Take the time to really get to know each other’s hearts. Inquire about your significant other’s goals, desires, passions, fears, downfalls and achievements. Be selfless in one of the most important relationships in your life and you will discover happiness beyond measure.

image

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

Housewarming parties, movie dates, dinners, bars, nightclubs, events - you name it. Saturday is usually where the my typical introverted layer is reluctantly shed and my socialite boo provides me with enough extroversion to keep things interesting for both of us.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"Twitterpated: A Pleasant Surprise"

image

What is your favorite feature in Avocado?

I would have to say the lists feature. We started a “Ryan & Sam’s Bucket List” and have fun crossing things off and adding more to the list. We have already completed 21 items together!

Do you have a funny or memorable Avocado story?

I discovered that you could link a different profile picture with certain messages, also known as the “Send Your Mood” feature. I distinctly remember putting some funny photos with common phrases, and then forgetting altogether that I did it, providing us with some very amusing conversations.

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

I love Samantha’s spirit. She’s the type of woman that you can leave in a room with 2 or 25 people and she will shine like the sun. She always tells me that she loves my support and when I make her laugh, but I like to think it’s my Avocado kisses…

Couples share. Some share stories, dates, or food right from their plate. Some share space on the couch to sit closer, and some share a never-ending “honey do” list. For billions, even more is shared: a name, a home, an entire family.

Avocado’s mission is to create things that help you save and share those moments.

Today we launched Pears, the world’s first-ever social platform designed exclusively for couples. In the few hours Pears has been live for Avocado users, they’ve already begun telling their stories everywhere. From Bogota to Australia, Sweden to Oregon, and in 41 U.S. states and 34 countries, couples have discovered a new way of sharing their most favorite moments with each other and the world.

image

 With Pears, you can:

  • Create and share your moments, all from a profile that you share with your favorite person

  • Customize your shared profile with covers, avatars, names, and locations

  • Follow, “love”, and comment on other couples’ stories from around the world

  • Take fun quizzes and match them up against your other half (Which Game of Thrones couple are you?)

  • Save conversations you don’t want to forget

  • Instantly share your moments to Twitter or Facebook

Pears and Avocado share a common login, so you can bookmark your favorite moments in Avocado and share them to Pears instantly (for more on that, read the FAQ below).

image

Pears is open to everyone starting today, though some couples may land on a wait list during our initial sign-up rush. You can see some of our favorite couples right here.

We hope you enjoy using Pears, and that it brings you closer to the most important person in your life.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

FAQ

Why is this a thing?

More and more couples are sharing accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and beyond. The trend hasn’t exactly been supported by these networks - some, like Facebook, expressly forbid shared accounts, and others tend to make such a use case difficult in practice. Meanwhile, Pears is built from the ground up for two people to share as one.

A recent study showed that posting about your relationship on Facebook makes you more likely to report being happier than couples who don’t. With our app, Avocado, we’ve seen over and over how a digital home built for two can vastly improve couples’ relationships. Pears is the new frontier for us to help couples grow closer together and to connect with other couples.

Sharing things from my Avocado… Uh, privacy issues?

We got your back, boo. Yes, you can share individually selected stories from Avocado to Pears just by favoriting them, but you are in full control of that decision. If you want to keep your content private and just for you two, simply make your Pears account private. Every last piece of your content will be hidden from others’ view. Even if you have a private account, you can still see public accounts on Pears and follow other couples.

If you want to join other couples in sharing your love stories publicly, make your profile public in settings. That’s it!

How do I share things from Avocado to Pears?

Once you confirm your Pears profile, you’ll be able to view your favorited items as well as favorite new items immediately. Here’s how to do it:

Android:

  • Long press a photo or message
  • "Add Favorite"
iPhone:
  • Swipe right on a photo or message

Web:

  • Click the star on any photo or message

Got more questions? Email support@pears.io and we’ll get back to you pronto.

Family, teamwork and a whole lot of chocolate are just a few ingredients that make up Gregory and Morgan’s secret sauce for a happy and harmonious relationship. Read on to hear their story!

image

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Anniversary: 03/06/2011

How did you meet?

How we met sets the stage for our mutual faith and vision. We met through family. Morgan’s parents graciously invited my family over for dinner one night after meeting at a Torah service. The first time we met all of the surrounding created the perfect frame for the most stunning woman I had ever seen. I may have been speechless and drooled a bit. Needless to say, and despite my poor first fashion display of cuffed white jeans we saw things in each other that ran so much deeper than the surface. We have continued to grow more in love with each other each day.

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Always remind each other that you’re on the same team. Be selfless. Work hard. A husband should always romance his wife and a wife should always flirt with her husband.

image

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

After singing through a great Jewish tradition of Havdalah together as a family, we put the girls to bed and pretend like we’re in high school again. PJ’s, fun movie/show, chocolate, creative beverage, chocolate, and a fun snack. And chocolate.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"A Farewell to Celibacy"

What is your favorite feature in Avocado?

Being able to hug and kiss. No joke, I had a keyboard shortcut in my phone for “*hug*” because of how often I send it to Morgan.

Do you have a funny or memorable Avocado story?

The best was a very descriptive joint daydream about traveling to Italy together. We both drew pictures, described occurrences, and smiled. Avocado made that possible. The drawings and our cheesiness are too much for this blog. No screenshot. :-)

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

I love how perfectly my wife fits the mold of a Proverbs 31 woman. And how much she appreciates family. I’d like to say her favorite thing about me is that I mow the lawn shirtless, but she said her favorite thing about me is my enthusiasm for life.

What’s your favorite guacamole recipe?

A couple mashed avocados, tossed with a handful of sheep’s milk feta cheese, a squeeze of lime, one minced garlic clove, a sprinkle of finely chopped red bell pepper, and salt and pepper.

Camaro and Cameron defied lost passports and distance to be together! These two foodies love a good adventure and a good laugh. Read on to hear about their love story.

image

Location: Camaro resides in Toronto, Canada and Cameron is in East Lansing, Michigan

Anniversary: 03/03/2013

How did you meet?

We were brought together by a mutual friend. She mentioned to each of us that we would like the other, but Camaro was working in Ghana and I was toiling away at graduate school in Michigan so it was a passing idea that neither of us entertained at the time.

We finally met a year later in the streets of St.Kitts and Nevis last December during carnival. We were both on vacation in some regard: Camaro was home for an extended visit with family and I was staying with our mutual friend and her family to attend another friend’s wedding. We spent a lot of time together over the five days I was on the island and I was pretty sure that I wanted to see her more after I left. She agreed and our friends helped plan my trip to visit her in Toronto the next month. We’ve been dating ever since.

And to think, I almost missed the trip because I misplaced my passport and had actually cancelled my flight.

image

What is the best advice you could give couples for a happy and harmonious relationship?

Accept the other person just as they are without wanting or trying to change anything about them. It really gives each person the freedom to completely be themselves and the security of knowing they are loved unconditionally. And talk regularly; constant communication and encouragement are important aspects of our relationship.

What does the typical Saturday night look like for you two?

If we’re apart, we try to schedule virtual date nights, which usually include wine, good conversation and great jokes. We are both big foodies so If we’re together we usually embark on some kind of culinary adventure.

If someone made your love story into a book, what would the title be?

"The Adventures of Cam²: Our Choose Your Own Adventure Story”

Because our relationship has been one awesome adventure so far and we intend to keep it that way.

image

What is your favorite feature in Avocado? Do you have a funny or memorable Avocado story?

Cameron: I like the kisses, especially when I get them because they always come at the right time.

Camaro: It’s a toss up between the video function and the custom emoticons

How we came to choose avocado is pretty memorable to us. Cameron was using another two person app to keep in touch with his best friend who lives abroad. She is the person who introduced us and quickly offered up her spot on the app, but we wanted to create our own space. As avocado aficionados, this seemed like a fantastic choice. I also thought a couple app named after a fruit that only grows in pairs was very clever.

What’s your favorite thing about your boo, and what’s your boo’s favorite thing about you?

Camaro: My favorite thing about Cameron is how incredibly supportive he is. I feel like no matter what life throws at me, I have someone who is always in my corner. He is my biggest cheerleader. I’ve learned a lot about how to be a good friend to others by watching how he interacts with the people in his life.

Cameron: My favorite thing about Camaro is how warm and kind her spirit is. She really wants to make the world a better place and that is one of the things that really drew me to her.
